4th of July Parade = Small Town in the Big City
Arlington will hold it’s 42nd Annual Independence Day Parade in downtown on Wednesday, July 4th starting at 9am. As big as the city has become, the parade has managed to retain that “small town” feel. You’ll see everything from professionally designed floats and marching bands to clowns and classic automobiles.
I actually marched in the parade a few times with the Sam Houston High School Texan Marching Band back a few (OK, maybe 20) years ago. It was great to be a part of it, but to me it’s more fun to be a spectator so you can see it all.
So if you’re looking for something fun and free to do this 4th of July, I highly recommend you take your family and check it out. Get there early and stake out your spot. For the complete parade route, history and volunteer information, visit Arlington4th.com

Just came home from the Independence Day Parade: Well done! My fave float was the George Washington praying float #96. It was so tasteful and patriotic and realistic if one knows of Washington’s convictions.
One that could certainly be nixed next year is the UTA “cheerleaders” w/the tiny, skimpy cheek-revealing, un family friendly outfits. Perhaps they could perform in a non family venue?
Thanks for all the work that goes into the parade. We are die-hards that arrive at our traditional spot before dawn and know the other early morning folks by first name. Go Arlington!
