Area Ranks 5th in Worst Traffic
A Texas A&M study ranks the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area as the 5th worst for traffic. According to the study, North Texans waste an average of 58 hours a year stuck in traffic. That’s almost 2 1/2 days folks! Twenty-five years ago, the average Metroplex traveler lost only 10 hours a year. That shows just how much this area has grown in the last half century.
The study counts “wasted time” as the time sitting in traffic jams, not the normal, driving the speed limit commuting time. Add all that up and you’ve wasted even more days.
The top worst traffic cities were (with # of hours):
- Los Angeles, 72
- Washington, D.C., 60
- San Francisco, 60
- Atlanta, 60
- Dallas-Fort Worth, 58
- Houston, 56
- Detroit, 54
- Miami, 50
- Phoenix, 48
- Chicago, 46
