Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I was hoping to bring you both sides of the Crime Tax issue today, but unfortunately I could only find videos asking you to vote FOR the tax.

I found three videos on YouTube supporting the issue and decided to just let you see them all.

The first one features Mayor Robert Cluck telling you why you should vote for the Crime Tax:

Meet the Mayor at the Mall

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Yes, you read that right. This Saturday, August 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mayor Cluck and other representatives from the city will be at the Parks Mall Center Court (below the food court) to visit with citizens and answer questions.

Arlington’s Strong Neighborhood Initiative (ASNI), Community Development and Planning, Community Services, Environmental Services, Fire, Library, Municipal Court, Office of Communication, Parks and Recreation, Police, Public Works, and Water Utilities will have representatives participating. Also on hand will be the Remote Animal Adoption Unit. They will set up on the lower level outside of the skating rink to help promote responsible pet ownership in the city.

“Accessibility is an important part of our service commitment to the public,” said Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck. ”See you at the Mall!”

For more information about this event, call Neighborhood Coordinator RJ Blair at 817-459-6104 or e-mail rj.blair@arlingtontx.gov.

Notable News for Wednesday, August 8

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Sorry I’m a little late today. We had a few technical problems on the site but I *think* they are worked out now.

Mayor Robert Cluck plans to push for a sales tax increase and use the money to fight rising crime in the city. Mayor Cluck hopes to raise the sales tax to 8.125% from 8% in order to add another 50 police officers to the force. Opponents suggest that putting more “feet on the street” is not the answer and money should be spent to better equip our officers and get the community involved in crime prevention. (more…)

What is Your Clean Air IQ?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

poster01_1.jpgThat’s the name of Arlington’s new clean-air campaign that began yesterday.

You can find out how clean the air around you is by requesting a free ozone detector card from www.arlingtoncleanair.com.  Pull the tab on the  credit-card sized device, expose it to the outdoor air for 10 minutes or indoor air for 20 minutes and match the color that appears to the key to see how your air rates.

The Parks Mall has donated $95,000 worth of advertising space for the program on the upper level between Dick’s Sporting Goods and Aeropostale. National CineMedia has also donated 572 ads that will be shown before movies at The Parks’ AMC theater beginning on August 10.

Mayor Robert Cluck said the city is trying to reduce emissions by doing things such as swapping some fleet vehicles for hybrids and timing traffic signals to shorten the time vehicles idle but citizens need to do their part as well.

Notable News for Thursday, July 26

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Two teenage boys were arrested for the two apartment robberies I told you about yesterday. Samuel Nectali Aguilera, 17, was being held at the Arlington Jail facing two counts of aggravated robbery and evading arrest. The other suspect, age 15, was taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center.

A 15-year-old girl drowned in an Arlington apartment complex pool Saturday. Christine Ogoti of Grand Prairie was playing in a pool with others when someone noticed she was at the bottom of the water. Bystanders pulled her from the pool and tried to revive her. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead around 6:15 p.m.

Mayor Robert Cluck has vowed to enhance public safety, especially in neighborhoods.  During a state of the city address sponsored by the League of Women Voters he said the council is working on making all neighborhoods safe. Revenue generated by the new red-light cameras will benefit the police and fire departments, he said. “We do not have enough policemen on the streets,” Cluck said. “My pledge to you is that we will do everything we can to make the city safe anytime, anywhere.”

Homeowners To See Lower Insurance Costs

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

The City of Arlington’s public protection rating has improved, which could result in as much as a 7 percent reduction in insurance costs for Arlington homeowners.

The City of Arlington has earned a 2 rating by the Texas Department of Insurance, which rates communities from 1 to 10 on their ability to protect the public from the hazard of fire.  The system rates a community’s water supply, distribution, equipment, fire alarm processing and fire prevention efforts. The City of Arlington has had a 3 rating for about 17 years. The new rate will take effect on December 1, 2007. (more…)
