Six Flags Wants to Sell You a Beer

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

889289_drink.jpgSix Flags Over Texas posted the required 60 day notice of their application for a permit to sell beer at their two Arlington parks on December 17.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is holding a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at the Texas Department of Transportation Regional Training Center located at 2501 S.W. Loop 820 in Fort Worth. That’s at the intersection of Interstate 20 and McCart Avenue. They will listen to debate over the application and will explain the protest procedures.

Six Flags already sells alcoholic beverages at it’s Fiesta Texas park in San Antonio. Neighborhing Sea World also sells alcohol as does the Texas State Fair. They would like to add Six Flags Arlington and Hurricane Harbor to that list.

If the permit is approved, beer sales could start at the beginning of the 2008 operating season in March.

For more information on the permit procedure, you can visit http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/.

Six Flags to Add Tony Hawk Coaster

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

10332263451press924200761842PM.jpgSix Flags Over Texas has announced plans to add a new Tony Hawk roller coaster for the 2008 season. The new coaster will replace the 25 year old “Wildcatter” free-fall ride, located near the Boomtown section of the Park. For all you old-timers (like me) that ride was formerly known as the “Texas Cliffhanger.” I won’t be too sorry to see it go. I got stuck on it once and it scared the hell out of me…but I digress.

If you’re not familiar with Tony Hawk, he is a professional skateboarder who gained popularity during the 1999 X-Games. He is credited with creating several aerial skateboard tricks and his popularity has led to video games, clothing lines, television and more. (more…)

No More ‘Line-Jumping’ for Disabled Guests at Six Flags

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

hi_ShockWave_300dpi.jpgGuests with disabilities will no longer to be able to skip the line at Six Flags parks nationwide. The company will now require disabled guests to get a boarding time from an attendant and return. The system will work like the ”Flash Pass” system, which is available to any guest for an extra charge. The disabled guest will now be required to use the “Flash Pass” entrance and receive an appointment time to come back. The new policy took effect Sept. 7 and applies to all 21 Six Flags theme and water parks, including Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor in Arlington.

The new policy is designed to cut down on those who cheat the system. There had been complaints that people were faking disabilities in order to skip the line. There was also a problem with disabled guests sharing their wrist bands with non-disabled guests, allowing them to move to the front of lines.

The Amazing Race is coming to Six Flags

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Amazingracelogo.jpgWell, sort of.  CBS and Six Flags are holding an Amazing Race contest in the Arlington park on July 31.   Teams will consist of one person over 18 and one person under 18 (but over 54″ tall).

Just like in the show, teams will be required to complete a series of tasks throughout the park (including rides and other activities) using Amazing Race “clues” to locate and complete each task.  Clues for the following task will be given to each team by a race official after the successful completion of each task. Once all tasks have been completed, teams must race to the final meeting point. The first team to reach the end of the race and to have successfully completed all six tasks will be declared the winner.MySpace Tracker (more…)

Looking for Love?

Monday, July 9th, 2007

801380_47406908_1.jpgThis may be old news to some of you, but apparently I’ve been living in a box for the past few months because I just found out that Arlington was named the #3 city in the United States for meeting men over 35.  Oprah even featured the city on her show back in April.

Men’s Health Magazine, in conjunction with The Oprah Winfrey Show, calculated the men-friendliness of different cities based on 7 categories:  ratios of single men to single women and of gay to straight; divorce rates; fitness; philanthropy; education; thrill factor (places with fun stuff that makes hearts race and bonds form).  Here’s what they had to say about our fair city: (more…)

Six Flags to Host 7 Weddings on 7/7/07

Friday, July 6th, 2007

7/7/07 is considered to be the luckiest day of the century so traditional wedding venues are booked solid.  Popular wedding spots, such as the Gaylord Texan resort in Grapevine and the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, have been booked for more than a year.  With tradional venues unavailable, some couples are electing to get married in some unusual ways, some even entering to win a wedding in a Wal-Mart of all places. Flooding Closes Down Six Flags

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

701569_24407567.jpgOur weather has been a little crazy around here this year.  We’re usually hot, humid and in a drought by now, but not this year.  I think it has rained for 40 days and 40 nights (or something like that).  Actually, we have had more rain through June than we usually have all year - seriously.  According to NBC5, yesterday’s storms brought the rainfall total for 2007 to 30.16 inches, yet for the entire year of 2006, the total was only 29.75 inches and in 2005, only 18.97 inches.   And the year’s only half over folks!
