Charities Doing Great Things for Back-to-School
Arlington is home to some great charitable organizations and two of them have some back-to-school events going on this month. I encourage you to support them in any way you can.
Arlington Charities is collecting donations for its annual Supply Train, which provides about 1,100 families with school supplies. They are accepting donations of supplies and/or money for the cause. School supplies are needed by August 17. Here is a list of what they are looking for:
- 24-count crayons
- Notebook paper
- Pencils and pens
- Red pencils and pens
- Spiral notebooks
- Pocket folders with brads
- Glue
- Colored pencils
- Pencil bags
- Subject dividers
- Scissors
- Blunt scissors
- Erasers
- Rulers
- Three-ring binders
They also welcome donations of nonperishable foods such as cereals, peanut butter, canned goods, dry milk, rice, boxed instant foods, baby formula, boxed or canned juices and pasta.
Donations can be delivered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday at Arlington Charities, 811 Secretary Drive. Call 817-275-1511 for more information.
And one of my favorite charities, Mission Arlington, will offer a free dental clinic for teens on Saturday. The clinic will take place at Mission Arlington, 210 W. South St. The clinic is for teens whose families have little or no insurance. Dentists will be on hand to do exams from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members of the Texas Rangers will visit from 11:45am to 1pm. For more information, call 817-277-6620.
