Looking for Love?
This may be old news to some of you, but apparently I’ve been living in a box for the past few months because I just found out that Arlington was named the #3 city in the United States for meeting men over 35. Oprah even featured the city on her show back in April.
Men’s Health Magazine, in conjunction with The Oprah Winfrey Show, calculated the men-friendliness of different cities based on 7 categories: ratios of single men to single women and of gay to straight; divorce rates; fitness; philanthropy; education; thrill factor (places with fun stuff that makes hearts race and bonds form). Here’s what they had to say about our fair city:
Smack-dab between Fort Worth and Dallas, Arlington has a transient population looking for love.
“We have all these new, lonely people in the middle of a metropolitan area,” says O.K. Carter, a columnist for the Star-Telegram. “If you want a cowboy who writes poetry, you can find him. If you want a doctor who rides Harleys, you can find him.”
Everything’s bigger in Texas — including the hearts of Arlington men. Guys here invest more of their disposable income to charities than most, and they’re down-to-earth.
“There are some really friendly guys here,” says Diane Brandon, vice president communications and research for the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau. “I’ve gone on dates with men I met at Starbucks or Whole Foods Market because they’re approachable.”
There are tons of other male-dominated places to find a mate, including the Rangers Ballpark, River Legacy Park, and Six Flags Over Texas.
In honor of this prestigious designation, The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau is now offering the ladies a “Where the Men Are”vacation package which includes regular girly things like a trip to the spa and shopping, but also includes man-friendly attractions like the Legends of the Game baseball museum or a Texas Rangers game. Of course, you can also include Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor (men in swimsuits, no doubt).
Other cities in the Top 5: San Jose, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Raleigh, NC; & San Francisco, CA.
