Notable News for Thursday, July 19

Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting I told you about on Tuesday. The victim, Russell Wills, was found on Fielder Road by a passing motorist. Clinton Partlow, 17, was arrested after Police received several tips. A woman called Wills to arrange a drug sale, but when he arrived he was met by two men, one of whom was Partlow. Witnesses say Partlow was angry at Wills because he was having an intimate relationship with Partlow’s girlfriend.

Well the rains are gone and the weeds are thriving. City officials say complaints of high weeds have tripled. If you haven’t mowed yet, you might want to get on it. Property owners get one warning notification per year. The city can pay a contractor to mow the property for subsequent violations and then bill the property owner. Those who don’t pay the $240ish bill, can have a lien placed against their property. To report weeds and grass in excess of 12 inches tall, you can call (817) 459-6777 or visit www.arlingtontx.gov and click on Citizen Action Request.

An Arlington man was shot late Monday shortly after breaking up with his pregnant girlfriend at their Grand Prairie apartment, police said. Romando Grant, 34, had gone to the apartment to collect his belongings. As he left, a black Acura Legend with 4 men pulled up beside him. He returned to the parking lot and 4 men followed. While talking to one of the men, the man pulled out a handgun and shot at him, Grant said. He then drove to his apartment in Arlington, where he called police.

Burglars broke into the Step N Save at 1832 E. Park Row Drive near New York Avenue about 4 a.m. Wednesday and took an ATM. A witness told police that thieves threw the ATM into the back of a blue extended-cab pickup and headed east. They were followed by a white Dodge Dynasty.

Erosion from all of the heavy rains separated a sewer pipe in the northeast part of the city.  An estimated 158,000 gallons of sewage spilled into a small creek, officials said. The spill in the 2500 block of Forest Point Drive was reported Tuesday after some children reported a suspicious smell. Officials say it will not affect drinking water or wildlife.  The sewage is being pumped back into the system.  Repairs may take several weeks.
