Notable News for Tuesday, July 17
A man was found unconscious by a passing motorist at the intersection of Fielder Road and Randol Mill Road early Monday morning. He was the victim of an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was transported by CareFlite to John Peter Smith hospital in Fort Worth. Police are investigating to see just how he ended up in the roadway.
The city is hoping to clean up the air by using drivers as watchdogs. Drivers who see a car belching out smoke can call a special tips line by dialing #SMOKE on their cell phone or calling 817-704-2522 and giving the plate number of the violating vehicle. Each reported car will be entered into a state database, accessible by law enforcement agencies.
More details are emerging in the domestic dispute and standoff I told you about yesterday. Several suspicious packages were found in the home as well as what police describe as “bomb making materials” and a prohibited weapon. The woman who was arrested, Aisha Abdul-Rahman Hamadwas, on probation for waving a fake hand grenade at a passing motorist. A witness says he saw the woman and her roommate walking the neighborhood dressed in camouflage. The women had been in the media last spring when they were questioned at Love Field. They were observed pacing off the terminal building, then standing at the perimeter fence watching flight operations. DFW Airport reported a similar incident. The women said they were hassled because of discrimination against Moslem women. Both wore fatigues and head scarves during the incidents.
The Texas Department of Transportation will close all lanes of Interstate 30 from 9 p.m. today until 5 a.m. Wednesday at Northwest 19th Street in Grand Prairie. The 19th Street bridge and the exit and entrance ramps will also be closed.
