Mayor Robert Cluck plans to push for a sales tax increase and use the money to fight rising crime in the city. Mayor Cluck hopes to raise the sales tax to 8.125% from 8% in order to add another 50 police officers to the force. Opponents suggest that putting more “feet on the street” is not the answer and money should be spent to better equip our officers and get the community involved in crime prevention.
The U.S. Department of Labor has filed a lawsuit against Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. to recover back wages estimated to exceed $3 million. The complaint alleges the money is owed to more than 500 former and current workers engaged in poultry processing work. The company has distribution centers in Arlington as well as a sales and administration office and a chicken processing facility in Dallas.
