Retail Center Planned Next to Red Kane Park
I’m not sure how I feel about having a retail center right up next to the park, but that’s apparently the plan.
A small retail center with an upscale restaurant is planned near F.J. “Red” Kane Park in south Arlington.
The restaurant will abut the park, which is west of Cooper Street north of Eden Road.
The developer hopes that the park will add to the ambience of the restaurant and retail center and vice versa, said Jim Maibach, president and founder of Peyco Southwest Realty, who has served as an adviser to the owners. A patio with outdoor seating will overlook the park.
The developers plan to preserve the larger trees on the back of the 1-acre site, near the park entrance.
“We didn’t want it to be a detriment to the park. In fact, we wanted to use the park as an amenity,” said Maibach, a former Arlington parks board member.
Kevin Hoang, owner and developer, bought the land two years ago from investors who acquired it during the real estate crash of the late 1980s. Hoang could not be reached for comment.
A little less than half of the 7,250-square-foot retail center will be used for the restaurant. The rest will be leased and is already drawing interest from medical businesses.
