Shoe Drive at the Parks Mall

Shoes are something most of us take for granted. But for people in disadvantaged countries or victims of natural disasters, footwear is sometimes hard to come by.

To help out, the Parks at Arlington is getting invloved with Soles4Souls, an international charity dedicated to providing free footwear to disadvantaged people around the world. They began collecting shoes for victims of the Asian Tsunami in 2004 and continued their good work for victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast of the United States. They have also provided millions of shoes to people in other parts of the U.S., Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, The Dominican Republic, Haiti, Brazil, Uganda, Sudan and Romania.

Collection boxes will be set up at the Parks through Sept. 30 so shoppers can donate new or gently used shoes for adults and children. Boxes will be at the customer service center in center court next to the down escalator. Each individual who donates a pair of shoes will receive a special offer or discount from a retailer in the mall. For more information on how you can help the effort, visit http://www.soles4souls.org/ or call 1-888-840-7074.
